Wargamers know a lot about the hardware of war. They know which are the weapons to fire, the planes to fly, and the ships to sail.
Unfortunately, real war is never so tidy. No commander ever goes into battle with all of the forces that he would like, and in many cases he is lumbered with whatever can be scared up.
This scenario is designed as a training aid for gamers unused to the niceties of modern naval warfare. It features an opposed transiting of a small convoy, escorted by a naval task group that is not, shall we say, ideally what one would wish for.

The Balikpapan Raid, January 1942
Following the capture of Tarakan Island on the East Coast of Borneo by Japanese Forces on January 12, 1942, the Central Invasion Force under Vice-Admiral Ibo Takahashi prepared to attack the port of Balikpapan. By January 17, 1942 the airfield on Tarakan Island had been repaired and the Imperial Japanese Navy's (IJN) 23rd Air Flotilla was using it as its new headquarters. This airfield would be used to provide air support to Japanese Naval Forces moving south to conquer the rest of Borneo.

Each player started with 3 Clan\Family Leaders each with a clan force and two locations (6 in total) The actual clans representing pseudo-historical families (with certain name changes!). Alliances could be made and were binding till broken!

Battle of Dodgy Bank

This was a 'refight' of the famous WW1 Naval action, Dogger Bank. It was fought on the floor of Nelson Street Community Centre Hall, using 1/600th ships, scratchbuilt by Paul and using a variant of the old 'Fletcher Pratt' Naval Rules.
